Environmental Awareness Program-24-08-2024

On 24th August, 2024, an environmental awareness program was organized under the Eco Club at Pragathi Vidyalaya Marur in collaboration with the Environmental Management and Policy Research Institute of the Government of Karnataka and the Centre for Ecological Sciences of the Indian Institute of Science. A special lecture was organized on the topic of Importance of Forest in Village Economy and Environment.
The programme was presided over by Shri R.G.Bhat Present President of Vidyaniketan Mooroor Kallabbe, The Chief Guest was Dr. Subhash Chandran, Consultant Scientist, Indian Institute of Science. He was a journalist with the Daily Times. Principals, teachers, students and members of the governing board were present at the meeting. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Dr. G. Naik spoke about the adverse effects of deforestation on the environment, problems such as hill erosion, landslides, etc. In his lecture, Dr. D. Subhash Chandran explained how forest plays an important role in increasing the temperature of the earth, its causes, its effects, agricultural economy in the lives of rural people, and how different types of trees, uses, God’s laws play an important role in environmental protection. The way he explained to the children using the projector was special.
Delivering the presidential address, Shri R. G. Bhatta discussed how road works and other development works have led to environmental destruction.
The programme was well compered by the students.
